Platform limits and restrictions

You can test many things with Lyssna, from logos to prototypes and even live websites, but you can't test everything under the sun (yet!). In order to maintain a smooth and positive experience for both you and the users who participate in your studies, there are a few technical limitations and testing restrictions you should be aware of when using the Lyssna platform.

What you can't do with Lyssna

  • Have users download an external file to their device

  • Require users to sign up for an account

  • Ask Lyssna panelists to pay for anything

  • Include a URL to an external site as a part of your instructions or survey questions. Our live website test sections are designed to allow your participants to navigate your page while still tracking and capturing their activity for your study. Including URLs in any other type of test section can lead to participants being timed out of your test for inactivity.

  • Use Lyssna studies to encourage, prompt, or incentivize participants to leave public-facing reviews, ratings, or endorsements on third-party platforms (for example, app stores, review sites, or Google Maps), or to otherwise breach the terms of service of another website.

  • Request that Lyssna panelists provide personally identifiable information (PII). For our purposes, PII includes but is not limited to:

    • Name (preferred name is provided when conducting interviews with the panel)

    • Email address

    • Social media account

    • Phone number

    • Address

    • Employer + Job title (when requested together)

  • Test adult material with our panel of testers, or anything else that would be considered Not Safe For Work

Supported browsers and devices

Browsers

For the absolute best performance, our platform will support the two most recent major versions of the following web browsers for most test sections:

  • Chrome

  • Firefox

  • Safari

  • Microsoft Edge (Note: Edge on Android is not supported)

The exception is live website test sections, which are only supported on Chromium-based browsers such as Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Safari and Firefox are not supported with live website test sections at this time.

Your browser will prompt you to update when newer versions are available.

For security reasons, Lyssna does not support Internet Explorer (IE), as Microsoft has discontinued support and security updates for this browser. If you attempt to launch our platform using IE, we will notify you to switch to a supported browser.

Devices

You can create tests and interviews using your laptop or desktop computer. While we have made many parts of our site responsive for smaller screens, we don't recommend using a mobile device or similar small-screened devices when creating your studies.

People you invite to respond to your studies can do so using their desktop, laptop, and mobile devices.
