Lyssna’s new summary feature helps you turn raw feedback into real insights quickly. You can now synthesize your research findings by adding summaries directly within your unmoderated test results. This feature is designed to give your team more control and clarity, making it easier to analyze results at a glance.
This feature is currently in beta and available to all users during this phase. We’re actively improving it and would love your feedback.
Lyssna’s synthesize feature gives you two ways to make sense of your research responses: AI-powered and manual summaries.
AI-powered summaries help you quickly identify key themes, saving time and effort when reviewing large volumes of feedback. AI summaries are available on all question types, including ranking, linear scale, and single or multi-select responses.
Manual summaries let you write your own interpretation of what you learned—ideal if you’ve already reviewed the responses or want to highlight something specific. Manual summaries are available on all question types, including ranking, linear scale, and single or multi-select responses.
To get started, hover over any question in your results to view and click the Synthesize button:
Clicking the button opens the Synthesize pop-up, where you can choose between generating an AI summary or writing your own:
Generating AI summaries
Once you’ve clicked the Synthesize button on a question, the Synthesize pop-up will appear.
Click Generate question summary under the Summarize section.
After a few seconds of "thinking", the AI will generate a summary highlighting common themes and sentiments from your responses.
Review your summary. To make changes, click the pencil icon to edit the summary manually before saving. You can also click the regenerate icon to get a new version.
Use the thumbs up or down icons to give feedback on the summary—this helps us improve the feature. If you click the thumbs down icon, a pop-up will appear asking for additional feedback so you can let us know what wasn’t quite right.
Once you're happy with your summary, click Add to question to save it. Your new summary will be added to the question's block just above your collected responses.
Summaries are only saved once you click Add to question. Clicking Cancel or clicking outside of the Synthesize pop-up will close it. Any previously generated summaries will be lost if they haven’t been saved.
Once your summary is saved, you can always come back to edit, minimize, or delete it later. You can also leave a comment on the summary to add notes or tag a teammate for collaboration.
How to turn off the AI feature
If you'd prefer not to use AI features, you can turn them off at any time. Head to the Feature access section in your account settings and toggle off AI functionality. Any account admin can enable or disable AI features for the account.
Even with AI functionality turned off, you'll still be able to create and add manual summaries to your results.
Adding manual summaries
Once you’ve clicked the Synthesize button on a text-based question, the Synthesize pop-up will appear.
Click Write question summary under the Summarize section.
In the editor, type your summary based on the responses. You can use basic markdown to format your text—italic, bold, bullet points, or numbered lists.
When you're happy with your summary, click Save to add it to your results.
Your new summary will appear just above the collected responses for that question.
Common questions
Is Lyssna training the new AI on my research data?
No, Lyssna will never train our AI model using your research data. To learn more, read about Lyssna's AI usage policies and our guiding principles for AI to see how we’re committed to protecting your privacy and data integrity.
Can I save more than one summary on a question?
No, only one summary can be saved per question. If you create a new summary (either AI-generated or manual), it will replace the previous one. We recommend copying or saving your existing summary elsewhere before creating a new one if you want to keep a record. You can also add comments to the summary if you'd like to add additional notes or context.
Will my summaries be included when I export my study's results?
No—summaries (whether AI-generated or manual) are only viewable on your results page and are not currently included when you export your study's results. If this is something you'd find useful, we’d love to hear from you at support@lyssna.com.
If I close the summary popup while the AI is still working, will it continue generating in the background?
No, if you close the summary pop-up while the AI is still working, your summary will not be saved. To keep the summary, make sure to save it before exiting the pop-up.
Can I generate a summary based only on a filtered view of my results?
No, summaries are always generated using the full set of responses for that question. If you're viewing a filtered set of responses, we recommend manually reviewing those responses and adding your findings to the summary.
