Checking audience feasibility with the Lyssna panel

Use the panel page to determine if enough participants match your target audience before you start building your study

Written by Jamie Shuey

The Lyssna panel page is your starting point for understanding whether our panel can fulfill your target audience before you invest time in building a study. Tell us your recruitment requirements and we'll tell you whether we can support them or not, along with an estimated turnaround time for order completion. This will allow you to adjust your targeting early if needed, or switch to our partner panel, rather than finding out at the order stage.

The panel page is also where you'll find the option to create a third-party study.

Accessing the panel page

From the sidebar navigation on your dashboard, click Lyssna Panel:

Checking audience feasibility

  1. First, select the type of study that you're planning to run: an unmoderated test or survey, a moderated interview, or a third-party study (hosted on a platform other than Lyssna).

  2. Use the slider or enter the number of responses you plan to order. If you have multiple studies and want unique participants for them, enter the total amount of responses needed across all of those studies.

  3. Use the targeting filters to define your audience. Check out our full list of demographic targeting options or search for your desired attributes on the panel page

  4. On the righthand side of the page, select the language that your study will be in.

  5. If your study has a screener question, toggle on "Screener." You'll be prompted to provide your estimated screen-in rate. If you're not sure, give your best guess here.

As you add your criteria, the estimated turnaround time will automatically update on the righthand side of the page. If at any point the targeting becomes too narrow, or we lack a sufficient number of panelists to fulfill your requirements, we'll show you a message that we can't fulfill your order.

Overly narrow targeting can reduce the available pool of participants significantly. If your estimated turnaround time is high, or we can't fulfill the order, try broadening one or two criteria to see how it affects feasibility before locking in your audience.

Proceeding with your selected audience

Once you've locked in your demographics and are happy with the estimated turnaround time, you're ready to start building your study. Click Create study using selections and we'll save your requirements for the order stage.

What happens if we can't fulfill your order

If there are targeting criteria that are critical to your study that we can't support with the Lyssna panel, we may still be able to help get your order filled. Contact our Support team from the chat widget in the bottom right corner of the app, or email us with your requirements so we can check feasibility with our partner panel.

Common questions

Why should I check feasibility before building my study?

Building a study takes time. If you reach the order stage and find the Lyssna panel doesn't have enough participants to match your audience, that work may need to be undone or your criteria revised from scratch. Checking feasibility first means you can make those decisions early before investing in your test build.

Does checking feasibility cost anything?

No. Exploring audience estimates on the panel page is free and doesn't use credits, nor does it count as a launched study. Credits are used, and studies counted as launched, when you place your order.

Why doesn't it tell me how much my order will cost?

Cost for panel responses is highly dependent on the length of your study, which is information we aren't capturing on the panel page. We'll let you know if we have enough participants, but the length of your study, plus whether you're using screeners or recordings, will directly determine the total cost of your order. If you want an estimated quote before building your test, check out our Panel research calculator.

Can I save my audience criteria for future studies?

Yes! If you plan to use the same audience on future studies, you can save your selections for quick and easy ordering next time. Once you've locked in your targeting requirements, but before you proceed with creating your study, click the Save audience button in the Demographics section on the righthand side of the panel page. Give your audience a name so that you can use it on future orders without selecting all of your attributes again.
