Test branding

Learn how to add your own branding to your tests using the Customize settings page, and how to customize individual tests.

Written by Jamie Shuey

When you share a test with your own participants, the first screen they see sets the tone. A familiar logo and a friendly message help people know who they're helping, so they feel confident taking part.

With customization, you can add your logo, brand color, a welcome image, and your own messages to the welcome and thank you screens of your tests. Set your branding once for your whole account on the Customize settings page, then fine-tune the welcome and thank you screens for any individual test.

The options available to you depend on your plan. Custom messages, your logo, color, and welcome image are available on the Growth and Enterprise plans. See our pricing page for plan details.

Customizations are only shown to participants you recruit yourself. Participants from the Lyssna research panel see the standard Lyssna screens.

Who can edit customization settings?

What you can change depends on your role in your team:

  • Account-wide settings (Customize page): Admins can edit these settings. Editors and Viewers can see them in read-only mode.

  • Welcome and thank you screens in a single test: Admins and Editors can edit these. Viewers can see them in read-only mode.

Setting your branding for your whole account

Account-wide settings give every test a consistent look. They also pre-fill the welcome and thank you screens in the test builder, so you don't need to re-enter your messages each time you create a test.

Adding your logo, color, and badge preference

  1. Click Settings in the navigation bar on the left of your dashboard.

  2. Select Customize.

  3. Under Appearance, upload your logo. It appears on your test's welcome and thank you screens.

  4. Under Primary color, enter a hex code or choose a color. This color is used for buttons and the progress bar. Click Reset to go back to the Lyssna color.

  5. Under Powered by Lyssna, turn off the Show 'Powered by Lyssna' badge toggle if you'd like to hide the badge from your welcome and thank you screens.

  6. Click Save changes.

Writing your welcome and thank you screens

  1. On the Customize page, scroll to Test screens.

  2. Select the Welcome screen or Thank you screen tab.

  3. Enter your Heading, Message, and button label. Click Formatting help to see how to add formatting to your message.

  4. On the Welcome screen tab, upload an Image to show alongside your message. Choose Fill area to fill the image space, or Fit image to show your whole image.

  5. Click Preview to see how your screens look on desktop, tablet, and mobile.

  6. Click Save changes.

For the best results, use a portrait image with a 1:2 ratio that's at least 2000px tall.

Custom text isn't translated. If you're running a test in another language, write your heading, message, and button label in that language.

Resetting to the Lyssna defaults

Click Reset to default in the Appearance or Test screens section to go back to the Lyssna logo, color, messages, and image for that section.

Customizing the welcome and thank you screens for a single test

Sometimes one test needs a different message – for example, a study for a specific customer group or a new product line. You can change the welcome and thank you screens for a single test without affecting your account-wide settings.

  1. Open your test in the test builder.

  2. Under Sections on the left, select Welcome screen or Thank you screen.

  3. Edit the Heading, Message, and button label. These are pre-filled with your account-wide text, or with the Lyssna defaults if you haven't set any.

  4. On the Welcome screen, replace or remove the Image, and choose Fill area or Fit image.

  5. Click Preview at the top of the test builder to check how your screens look.

To undo your changes for this test, click Reset to default at the top of the section.

What participants see

When someone takes your test through your test link, they'll see your customizations on the welcome and thank you screens:

  • Your logo at the top of the screen.

  • Your heading, message, and button label.

  • Your primary color on buttons and the progress bar.

  • Your welcome image beside your message on desktop and tablet. The image isn't shown on mobile, so participants on smaller screens can focus on your message.

  • A small "Powered by Lyssna" badge at the bottom of the screen, unless you've turned it off.

If your test includes things like screen recording or think-aloud, Lyssna also adds a short What to expect summary to the welcome screen so participants know what's coming.

FAQs about test branding

Will participants from the Lyssna panel see my branding?

No. Customizations are only shown to participants you recruit yourself through your test link. Panel participants see the standard Lyssna welcome and thank you screens.

Can I remove all Lyssna branding from my tests?

On the Growth and Enterprise plans, you can replace the Lyssna logo with your own and turn off the "Powered by Lyssna" badge.

Why are some options disabled on my Customize page?

An option is disabled when it isn't included in your plan, or when your role doesn't allow you to edit account-wide settings. Only Admins can edit the Customize page.

Why doesn't my welcome image show on mobile?

The welcome image is shown on desktop and tablet only. On mobile, participants see your logo, heading, and message without the image, so the screen stays easy to read.

Is my custom text translated for participants?

No. Your heading, message, and button labels are shown exactly as you write them, so write them in the language your participants will use.
